When your position for your organization requires you to make and receive business phone calls, having a desk phone is the best and that’s why I love my desk phone. Whether you work from home or an office, I love having the physical phone sitting on my desk in all of its glory.
The realization of why I really do love my desk phone came up after attending a business networking event a few weeks back. I got into a conversation with a senior loan officer who had recently moved to Charleston, SC. He was loving his new local office but had one problem. He didn’t have a desk phone. Only having access to his cellular phone was not doing the job for generating new business in a new city.
Reasons Why You Should Have a Desk Phone
Like most people, me included, if a weird out-of-state phone number calls my cell phone, I’m not going to answer. Whereas if you call my desk phone, I’m ready to answer all necessary work calls.
Work-Life Balance
In my current position with BizVox, here is more about why I love my desk phone. When I need to make a business related call, I pick up and use my desk phone. When a business phone call is coming in, my desk phone rings. It makes it nice and easy to separate my business and personal calls. Work calls stay with the work phone at my desk, and that’s that.
Multitasking when on Hold
If your inbound and outbound business phone calls involve big corporations, the possibility of listening to on hold music for an extended period of time is inevitable. Don’t let that time be unproductive! Take that opportunity to compose new or reply and send emails. Work on a blog. Or even grab a cup of coffee. The multitasking options are endless.
Clarity
When you have the right equipment and service, the phone clarity on your desk phone should be brilliant. No background noises. No crackling sounds. This allows for all business phone calls to remain professional.
All the Features
Voicemail to Email, Speakerphone, transfer, hold/mute, easy extension dialing to co-workers etc; all of the awesome features that come with my business desk phone make managing calls simple.
Security
One thing that many industries must worry about is the security of their communication between office staff and customers. A prime example of where it is of the utmost importance is the health industry. Due to HIPAA violations, a mobile first business communication strategy would never work. Staying safely at a secure desk phone inside the confined space of your office is where all business-related phone calls are recorded and must take place. No one would want Stephanie from the doctor’s office walking through the grocery store on her cell phone, talking to them about their most recent test results!
Focused Job Responsibilities
In a previous blog post, we discussed why advancements in team collaboration features aren’t for everyone. One topic covered was how more team collaborating would take away from the productivity of your sales and customer service teams. These team members focus on inbound and outbound sales and customer service calls as a huge requirement for their actual work to be done daily. And this can easily be done from a desk phone.
The Future of the Desk Phone for Work
For 10 plus years, conversations about the desk phone have gone in different directions. Is it dead or still a viable business equipment solution? As I’ve expressed above, I believe the latter and love having a desk phone for work because of all of the reasons highlighted above.
