Get ready to celebrate one of the most popular inventions to date, Wi-Fi! World Wi-Fi Day this year falls on Thursday June 20th. Behind your cellular phone, I’m putting Wi-Fi as the next biggest technology item you cannot go without, because Wi-Fi is life! But I would be wrong… According to Americans, the top 3 technology items we feel that we cannot live without are:
- Smartphones
- Laptops/Tablets
- Internet Access/Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi came in third behind laptops and tablets. Was the top 3 order surprising to you? It was to me! Regardless, we celebrate Wi-Fi on World Wi-Fi Day. Because Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is the technology that enables our favorite devices like smartphones, laptops, tablets, smart TVs, and others to connect to the internet and communicate with each other wirelessly.
World Wi-Fi Day is “organized every year by Wireless Broadband Alliance and developed by the Connected City Advisory Board (CCAB). It encourages cities, government parties, operators, service providers, and internet dealers to deliver connectivity to everyone, everywhere, helping to bridge the digital divide worldwide. The ultimate goal is to improve consumer access in broadband-deprived areas in Global North and South.”
